Alice opened the doors of Paper Bird Island in her hometown of Salcombe 10 years ago, in the Spring of 2015.
'My vision was to offer a haven for creativity, a space where self expression is encouraged, celebrated and enjoyed.'
On a trip to India in 2014 I led a mural project with a group of children, witnessing the therapeutic potential of art, for building confidence and nourishing the soul, and it became my inspiration for sharing my passion with others.
So now I needed a space...which came in the form of an old workshop in Salcombe.
Our first creative project?...A paper bird card. (Based on one I had made for my best friend)
Set on the water's edge and just off ‘Island’ Street the name of this destination had to be Paper Bird Island. An immersive space muralled like an island, decorated with hanging bird greeting cards where you could let your creativity fly!
Over the years we have moved premises four times (!) due to redevelopment and other circumstances, with our current home on Mill Street in Kingsbridge.
Along with our birds we now offer a huge selection of Papier-mâché models to decorate with paint, decorative paper and coloured sand. We also sell art materials, craft kits to take away and original cards and prints.
Thank you to our wonderful customers, old and new. You make Paper Bird Island come alive and we hope to welcome you soon!
